Wrap Up, Look Cool, Spring/Summer is here…

It may be a surprise that we are going to talk about the weather, but living in Manchester, the topic crops up every now and again. But for once, it’s not about the rain! Believe it or not, it’s actually too cold to rain.

Now while spring/summer collections are starting to fill the shops, most people are currently trying to figure out where they’ve put their hats and gloves, and which coat has the warmest lining. Luckily, the winter collections are still available, and even better, they’re mostly in the sale! Here are a couple of winter warmers that should keep out the cold;

This Joseph Shearling Jacket from Flannels is guaranteed to keep frostbite at bay. Charcoal grey and made from sheepskin, it is on sale for £695, reduced from £1,590.

At Calvin Klein, keeping warm is all in the layers. There are a whole host of winter wonders waiting to be snapped up, including this sweater (pictured below left), a bargain at £41, reduced from £139, and this Crombi jacket (below right), reduced from £319 to £95.

As soon as people turn their calendar from January to February, you can’t help but glance at those two words on February 14th: Valentine’s Day. Love it or hate it, everyone has an opinion on it. If you’re a hopeless romantic, then the news that David Wayman Flowers is opening on The Avenue should pull on those heart strings (and give you plenty of time to drop subtle hints to the other half). Plus, David is offering free delivery for any bouquets within the Spinningfields district, so whether it’s a bouquet for your other half or a single red rose for someone you’ve got your eye on, nip in to David’s new store and he’ll be able to help.  Alternatively woo your sweetheart with a rose bouquet from Hey Little Cupcake! that wait for it…they can eat. If a bouquet made entirely out of cupcakes (below) doesn’t get you extra brownie points then we’re not sure what will.

Singleton’s should head down to The Alchemist’s Tweet2Meet night, which starts at 7pm on February 14th. The event will see the bar run its Twitter stream live on its back wall – to get involved, all you need to do is tweet @AlchemistMcr. Fancy the girl at the bar but can’t pluck up the courage to tell her? Tweet it instead!! There’s even a prize for the most inventive tweet – a champagne dinner for two. And to top it all off, The Alchemist are offering a 2 4 1 on their Valentine’s cocktail – True Love, a vermouth-based cocktail topped with strawberries.

And finally…. Man City player Mario Balotelli has been named the second best dressed man in the UK in GQ’s annual Best Dressed Men list, announced this week. Rumour has it that last month he paid for everyone’s food while dining at Nando’s  in  Spinningfields. Style in more ways than one. Now if we could just be around when he’s in Mulberry….
