High Brows and Low Necklines…

So the BAFTAs and the Grammys are over for another year. And as usual, the stars of stage and screen presented us with a veritable fashion barometer – some, such as Christina Hendricks, looked smoking hot in her black asymmetrical Vivienne Westwood gown, while others, such as Naomie Harris did nothing to warm the cockles of the waiting fans in her acid yellow, all too revealing Gucci dress. Next year Naomie, don’t think less is more.

So black proved timeless once again and metallic made a strong appearance. The men beat the cold with a number of classic overcoats, including the lovely Brad Pitt, who never fails to disappoint.

On the other side of the Atlantic, the music world bowed down to Adele, who walked away with an outstanding 6 awards. But two stars faced every woman’s nightmare – with Gwynneth Paltrow and Rhianna turning up in almost identical dresses. There are two options in situations like these – try and avoid crossing paths at all times, or, embrace it and even have a cheeky laugh about it. These two lovely ladies did just that.

Chloe Sevigny has sparked a Twitter backlash from Mancunians far and wide after stating Manchester was one of the ‘grimmest places’ she’s ever been. According to Chloe, it rained every day she was here during her five month stay. Now come on Chloe, yes we know it rains in Manchester but you just have to do what we do – get on with it! If we let the rain stop us, we’d never leave our houses. And rain every day? Maybe 5 out of 7, but even we get a break every now and then.

We won’t touch upon Valentine’s Day too much, after all, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. But we will say that some people are still as keen as mustard on Cupid’s arrow, as Hey Little Cupcake! had people queuing out of the shop while Avenue retailer David Wayman Flowers was racing round Spinningfields delivering left, right and centre. We also wanted to share this youtube clip of a taxi driver on Valentine’s Night playing the saxophone while waiting for his client in Samsi. Nice touch.

Today we got to see and experience first-hand the talent that is Jo Pallan. With a room now set up in Nicky Clarke, Jo offers eyebrow shaping and lash bar and before we could say monobrow, she had us sat down and those pesky brows were whipped in to shape. The procedure is simple, quick and what’s more, it’s pain free. And if you feel embarrassed about having it done, fear not, Jo has her own private room.

Loving the arch.

And finally…London Fashion Week starts today, and we can’t wait to see the latest collections. Set to be the biggest and best yet, the likes of Mulberry, Christopher Kane, Giles, Erdem and McQ will be hitting the catwalks. With over 100 catwalk shows taking place, we shall cast our eyes over the very best and report back.
